Blessing the animals at Trinity Lime Rock

The Blessing of the Animals

Each year, on the Sunday closest to the Feast of St. Francis, it's the custom of Trinity Church Lime Rock to hold a Blessing of the Animals.

Below are a few pictures from the 2001 blessing.  Please click on the photos to see them full-sized.  Or, Our photo album -- blessing of the animals 2003 to see pictures of the 2003 blessing (we were also joined that day by the Choir of Trinity Church Wall Street who were here for their annual visit with us!).

You'll also see pictures from our other annual Blessings of the Animals around the website.  Browse around and see!  And don't miss our main page about Blessings of the Animals Blessing of the Animals at Trinity - main page to see that page!

The most recent Blessing of the Animals was in 2006.  Our photo album -- blessing of the animals 2006 to see pictures of the Blessing of the Animals on October 6, 2006.  In 2007, the Blessing of the Animals was held on October 7, during the 10:30 AM Holy Eucharist.  You can also see a page of photos of our 2008 Blessing.  Animals of reasonable size are invited to attend the liturgy and will be blessed at the appropriate time.  Large animals receive a blessing in Trinity Field.

Early arriver in Walker Hall An early arriver in Walker Hall
Pari and her dog our animals DO love us too!
Dog in Walker Hall some have misgivings....
Amber and Lizzie others arrive in containers and have little choice...
Bird or snake? ...and it's hard to find a few!
Girl with pony Some of the blessings are more appropriately administered outside... Girls with ponies
Dog in front of church We marvel every year that dogs and cats and birds and other animals seem to coexist for this hour.  More dogs in front of church
That's right: the animals attend the service with us.  We think that St. Francis would have approved.
Hayley's pet This Trinity Kid brought a pet of a different kind -- one that requires much less care than the living kind, but one that receives no less love.
