Palm Sunday Crafts....
Wherever you go in the Episcopal Church you'll find that there are some
traditional Sunday School crafts. Palm Sunday crafts are notable in this
category. Here are a few pictures, courtesy of our
Sunday School, of
palm crosses and palm crowns being created at Trinity Lime Rock.
(please click on the small pictures to see
larger versions -- we've got some newer pictures of the process of making Palm
Crosses, too -- scroll down the page to see them)

it's all about weaving the palm fronds) |

How about Palm Crosses?
| Our
Sunday School prepares palm crosses for the
parishioners -- here's our Sunday School director (and her
daughter) distributing them at Coffee Hour... |

to help make crosses this year, receive theirs. |

The process of making Palm
Crosses.
Every year people come to our website looking for information about
the fine points of Palm Cross making. We hope the pictures below
will help. Click on any of the pictures for a larger image. |

Starting out with two fronds...she's making a slit in one palm frond. |

She's made the slit in the palm frond, and is taking the end of the
other frond through it. |

Here, she's making loops on either side of the frond she originally
slit. |

Closing up the loops in the center -- these will be the arms of the
Cross. |

Now, back to the original frond.... |

Repeating the process with this frond, leaving one end longer than the
other. |

Finished product! |

You can make the slit with a thumbnail instead of with scissors.... |

Did you know that you can also make Palm Crosses from a single palm
frond, without cutting a slit? The trick here is to bend the frond
at a 45 degree angle to make the cross arm, and then to wrap the
remaining frond diagonally to reinforce the junction. We'll see if
we can get a demonstration of this approach photographed this year! |
