| As unbelievable as virtually everyone who
hears our organ finds it, our organ has NO pipes at all!
We have, we think, the best of all possible worlds for a
small, less-than-wealthy country church. We have a digital organ
that makes use of "samples" of notes from extraordinary organs
all over the world. The music it makes is not just adequate (what we
had hoped for when we decided to "go digital") -- it is
extraordinary! |
| The next question, usually, is
"...okay, but where are the speakers?"
Perhaps we have all seen too many rock concerts where the band plays
from behind a virtual wall of electronics and amplification
equipment. The fact is that at Trinity, since our sanctuary is not
large, we were advised that we would be well-served by the minimum
compliment of speakers that came with our instrument: 8.
And they are not intrusive. The photos below will demonstrate
that. Please click on any of them to see the speakers as they appear
in our church. |
|

Six of the speakers are wall-mounted,
within or at the edge of the chancel. They are painted gray to match
the wall. This photo shows speakers #1 and #2. |

Speaker #3 is at the back of the chancel,
on the same line with speakers #1 and #2. |

Speaker #4 is in on the floor in the
corner, behind the communion rail. The space had previously been
occupied by a cabinet for music. |
|

Speaker #5 is on the floor in the other
corner behind the communion rail. The Bishop's chair is visible to
the right -- useful in getting a sense of scale. We were able to make
room for this speaker by shifting the acolyte's chairs closer to the
communion rail. |

Speaker #6 is opposite speaker #3 at the
back of the chancel. |
Speakers #7 and #8 are opposite speakers
#1 and #2. |
This photo shows the chancel, taken from the main
aisle. The American flag and the Episcopal Church flag effectively
conceal speakers #1 and #8, while the structural details make speakers #2,
#3, #6 and #6 unobtrusive. Speakers #4 and #5 are invisible to the
congregation, placed as they are on the floor at the back of the chancel. |

So, THAT is where we hid the pipes!! |
|
And, thanks to Marshall Ogletree &
Co. The installation took a little over a day, and the voicing was
completed the next day. We've been delighted ever since! |

Still curious? Still dubious?
Come and see!! Come and HEAR!! |
