As is our custom at Trinity, when a baby is baptized here, the child receives three gifts.  First, a candle, lit from the Pascal Candle that burned during the baptism.  The hope is that the candle will be burned in the future on the anniversaries of the baptism.  Second, a teddy bear, from the ladies of the ECW.  This gift, begun by the wife of former Rector Newton Howden, is a recognition by the ECW that the baby is a child of the church.  Finally, a single red rose, which is present on the altar during Holy Communion, an ancient Celtic symbol of new birth.

Many of us remember Bishop Smith from the dedicated pastoral support he gave us a few years ago when Trinity was trying to figure out what the future held for us.  His words of encouragement then have borne fruit!  We wish him a wonderful retirement, and hope he will come back and visit with us.

Members of the New York Cycle Club visit Trinity each Memorial Day weekend, when their ride weekend in the Berkshires coincides with our annual ECW Tag and Bake Sale -- and we're on their itinerary for a rest stop.  We're always delighted to welcome them.  Here are a few pictures from their 2009 visit:
