As is our custom at Trinity, when a baby is baptized
here, the child receives three gifts. First, a candle, lit
from the Pascal Candle that burned during the baptism. The
hope is that the candle will be burned in the future on the
anniversaries of the baptism. Second, a teddy bear, from the
ladies of the ECW. This gift, begun by the wife of former
Rector Newton Howden, is a recognition by the ECW that the baby is a
child of the church. Finally, a single red rose, which is
present on the altar during Holy Communion, an ancient Celtic symbol
of new birth. |

Many of us remember Bishop
Smith from the dedicated pastoral support he gave us a few years ago
when Trinity was trying to figure out what the future held for us.
His words of encouragement then have borne fruit! We wish him a
wonderful retirement, and hope he will come back and visit with us. |

Members of the New York Cycle
Club visit Trinity each Memorial Day weekend, when their ride weekend in the
Berkshires coincides with our annual ECW Tag and Bake Sale -- and we're on their
itinerary for a rest stop. We're always delighted to welcome them.
