Summer Sports 2009 at Trinity Lime Rock

Here's the official Summer Sports 2009 photo

1.  The program started on July 5 this year.  There were too many other parish events in June to begin any earlier.  During July, we're played Tee-ball.  We worked on skills a little bit, but basically we just had fun with a bat and a ball.  The emphasis was on the younger kids that month.  CLICK HERE to skip down the page to the tee-ball pictures.  The final Tee-ball session was July 26.

2.  During August, we learned to play and/or improved our skills at volleyball.  This was mainly for the older kids, but the younger ones joined right in.  We played on grass, in our Reid Field, and the month improved as it went on.  We were really fortunate this year to have Chelsea Ziegler, captain of the volleyball team at Housatonic Valley Regional High School, come to help us out, to introduce the newbies to the game, and to help those with older skills to get on track with the way volleyball is played today.  Chelsea was a great ambassador for volleyball at Housy, and even though we're sending her only one new player this year, we think that in the photo above you will someday be able to say there are a number of them pictured.  Thanks, Chelsea!

Interestingly, the one volleyball player we sent on this year recently won the Tyburski award as the most outstanding Freshman volleyball player at Housatonic Regional High School.  Congratulations, Courtney!

We had an interesting mix of skill levels, and we've been introducing kids who have never played to volleyball -- as well as seeing some big improvements among those who have "been there, done that".  Here are photos from all four volleyball Sundays, with the final Sunday at the end.  Even from still photos the progress is visible.

On the last Sunday of the program, August 23, after volleyball, we celebrated with our now-traditional "Sundae Sunday":

Sundae Sunday  Sundae Sunday

As always, the program was free, and was open to young people of the entire area.  A generous (anonymous) benefactor again provided free tee-shirts for all participants to commemorate the summer -- THANKS!!
