We were delighted to welcome back to Trinity for the ninth straight year the incredible Choir of Trinity Church Wall Street, under the direction of their new Director of Music and the Arts, Julian Wachner. Every year they bring us their wonderful music, and increasingly we are getting to know each of them as individuals. They are absolutely inspiring.
This year, instead of consigning them to the pews in front of the Lectern while our own choir occupied the choir seats in the Chancel, we switched places, and both choirs processed together. Trinity Wall Street this year performed most of the service music (the Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus & Benedictus and Agnus Dei from William Byrd's "Mass for Four Voices". The two choirs joined in the Psalm (setting by our own Christine Gevert), and the Gospel Alleluia, "Alleluia, I heard a voice" by Thomas Weelkes. Trinity Wall Street provided the Offertory anthem, "Jubilate Deo, onmis terra" by Giovanni Gabrielli, and a Communion anthem, "O sacrum Convivium" by Olivier Messiaen.
As has been their practice ever since their first visit to us, the Trinity Wall Street Choir performed a capella.
