Forty Cows for
Peace
Local artist
Jo Ann O'Rear is presenting 40 pieces of art -- all cows -- her
creations and those of others --
as subject matter for a public art event that promotes world peace to be
held in Walker Hall on three weekends in October.
There was
an opening reception on Friday, October 7, from 7 PM - 9 PM (photos on
the
Facebook page). The exhibition will be open on Fridays, Saturdays, and
Sundays, October 8 - 23. Fridays and Saturdays the exhibit will open at
noon, and on Sundays opening will be at 1 PM. The exhibit will close
each day at 5 PM.
The artists
are Ms. O'Rear, sculptor Anne Huibregtse, Catherine Noren, Nancy Ghitman,
and Virginia Meili. Ms. O'Rear will be donating 50% of the
proceeds to the Center for Peace through Culture (in Great Barrington)
and Housatonic Heritage, a not-for-profit organization for the watershed
region of the Housatonic River with a mission to preserve and celebrate
the region's unique heritage.
Here's
what the artist says about the subject matter:
|
"A universally beloved
animal, cows contain an almost magical quality that makes
them transcend age, religion, race, and class. Thus,
they are a perfect subject for a public art event that would
promote world peace." |
