People tell us that
Christmas at Trinity Lime Rock is an experience to be treasured. It is a
time when our whole community comes together and celebrates -- each in our own
way -- the Birth of our Lord.
In sequence, here's how the preparations for Christmas play out in a typical
year:
In early Advent, our young people begin preparations for their Christmas
Pageant. More about that later!
Likewise, in early Advent, our Choir begins preparations for the special
music that has been a highlight of the Christmas season at Trinity for many
years. More about that later, too!
Around the same time, our Outreach team begins to plan for ways that we can
make Christmas happier for people in our own community than they might otherwise
be able to have.
The third Sunday of Advent, we bless the gifts collected within the parish to
be distributed in our community, and we undertake a Trinity tradition:
Greening of the Church.
The fourth Sunday of Advent, our young people present their Christmas
Pageant. While there's an entire section of this website devoted to
Christmas Pageants at Trinity -- and it's a very popular section as well -- we
should say a bit more about it here.
Trinity's Christmas Pageant began back in the dark days of World War II, in
1942, when the priest in charge of Trinity decided that a Christmas Pageant
might be a tonic for this struggling little parish church during very difficult
times. He was correct, and the young people's Christmas Pageant has been a
tradition ever since.
Following the Christmas Pageant, our choir goes out caroling. In 2007
we sang for the residents of Wangum Village in North Canaan, and for the
residents of the Alzheimer's Unit of Geer.
On Christmas Eve, we go into high gear. In 2007, our Choir presented a
well-attended concert at 4:30 PM, followed by a Festal Eucharist at 5.
At 10 PM, a traditional Christmas Eve Holy Eucharist was celebrated.
On Christmas, we honor the day with a Holy Eucharist at 9 AM.
Here's a short video from our 65th annual
Christmas Pageant.
