Christmas Pageants

Christmas Pageant 2011 at Trinity Lime Rock, our 69th consecutive Christmas Pageant, went off on schedule.  It was presented during the 10:30 AM Holy Eucharist on Sunday, December 18, 2011.

While our actual Christmas pageants are attended by fewer than 185 spectators (that's all our building holds, and for Christmas Pageant it's usually pretty full!), tens of thousands of people from all around the world have visited Trinity Lime Rock's young people's Christmas Pageants via the web.  That the Christmas pageants from a small rural Episcopal parish like Trinity Lime Rock are appreciated around the world is a testimony to our great kids, our hard-working adult volunteers, and our super church staff.  If you've visited with us before, welcome back!!

Some history of Christmas Pageants at Trinity:

Trinity Lime Rock's first Christmas Pageant was back in December 1942, during the darkest days of World War II.  Fr. Mulligan, then the Chaplain at Salisbury School, was filling in as Priest in Charge at Trinity, and he felt that a Christmas Pageant might be a great addition for this struggling little parish during those dark days. 

That was a long, long time ago, and sadly we have only one photo to show you of those early pageants, some of which were mystery plays and miracle plays instead of what we think of as Christmas Pageants today.  Here, with thanks to the Lakeville Journal, is a picture of the 1951 Christmas Pageant at Trinity.  (Click on the thumbnail to see a larger picture).

Since that very first Christmas Pageant at Trinity 69 years ago, 68 successful Christmas Pageants have passed.  Every year we reflect on the debt of gratitude we owe Fr. Mulligan for starting the the ball rolling.  You can see pictures from our eleven most recent pageants via the links at the top of this page, and soon photos and video of a twelfth will be joining them.
