HIGHLIGHTS
OF THE YEAR AT TRINITY CHURCH
(Click
on any of the underlined blue words
below to see more information about (and frequently photos from)
these activities at Trinity lime rock, Lakeville, CT) |
| In
January, sometimes we start with a pantomime
of the Visitation of the Magi
by our young people. Roughly a week later we celebrate the Feast
of the Ephiphany. We hold our Annual Meeting
in late January, after a potluck luncheon or a lunch prepared and served by the
Episcopal Church Women. After the Clergy and
Wardens give their reports,
we elect new Officers and a new class of Vestry members. We transact additional business as necessary. |
|
|
We started
2003 off with an organ concert. |
|
In 2002 we had a
series of Sunday afternoon concerts
called "An Afternoon with the Bach family" |
We hosted Girl
Scout Sunday in 2003. |
In
2003 we also held weekly Concerts for World Peace on Saturday mornings |
|
|
We
mark the beginning of the Lenten Season with a
Shrove Tuesday pancake dinner
traditionally prepared by the Sunday School students and their advisors. Proceeds from the
dinner go to Episcopal Relief and Development.
Recently we've been preceding it with an ecumenical
Choral Evensong. We continue the next day, on Wednesday, with the Ash Wednesday liturgy,
usually followed by a macaroni
and cheese dinner. |
|
During Lent, “Mothering Sunday” (sometimes known as “Refreshment Sunday”)
features Simnel cakes during the coffee
hour. |
Also during
Lent, we gather weekly and ecumenically
with the other churches in the Northwest Corner for worship and lunch
and for evening services and supper. |
| Following
Palm Sunday, the
Triduum Sacrum opens with
the Maundy Thursday liturgy and a
lamb supper, followed by the Good Friday Liturgy and
the Easter Vigil
on Easter
Eve. We celebrate Easter Sunday
with
a Festival Eucharist, special coffee hour and an Easter egg hunt! |
"Dinner and a Movie" is one popular activity you might find at
Trinity almost any time of year. |
|
|
|
Ascension Day
(2003) we
celebrated with our friends from the Salisbury Congregational Church and
the Millerton Presbyterian Church, hosting an ecumenical Ascension
Day Evensong with all three choirs. In 2004 we did it again!! |
|
Spring
always brings the need for a
Spring
Cleanup. |
In early May, the
racing season at our good neighbor across the street, Lime
Rock Park, begins. We make it a point to pray for all the participants "across the
street" during Prayers of the People at both services on major race weekends.
Often people from Lime Rock Park come and worship with us. |
| |
On
Trinity Sunday we mark our name day with the Annual
Parish Picnic. |
But
Trinity Sunday 2003 our
Parish Picnic was MORE than that -- it was the annual Bishop's Visitation,
it marked a visit by the Choir of the Millerton Presbyterian Church, it was
the groundbreaking for our new addition -- and, of course, it was also our
Parish Picnic. |
|
When June comes, Sunday School goes
on holiday, and Trinity's innovative
Summer Soccer
program
begins
and continues all Summer long. |
|
|
Throughout
the year, whenever school vacations permit, our
kids sing at Noble
Horizons in Salisbury to supplement their Episcopal worship services. |
|
Our friends at
the Berkshire Choral Festival frequently visit us on a Summer Sunday to
sing. |
|
Memorial
Day weekend features the annual ECW Giant Tag Sale and Bake
Sale; proceeds from
this event go toward supporting ECW’s many commitments both within Trinity
Church and in the larger community. |
|
Our friend, the
Rev.Daniel Hardy returns from England
for the summer
and sometimes provides us with lectures on Anglicanism |
|
All year long,
Trinity continues its Outreach efforts in our
own community and elsewhere. |
|
Often our Trinity
Field is the site of community activities, like the Falls Village
Benefit Horse Show. |
|
|
The
annual Trinity Invitational Art Show
takes place during the week before and
including the Labor Day weekend. We
are proud to have the reputation of being dependably one of the finest exhibitions in the
Northwest Corner. Commissions from sales go in part toward Trinity’s
outreach projects. |
|
September:
Sunday
School resumes. Confirmation
Class starts soon afterward. |
Emergency Services
Sunday was a new addition
to the calendar in 2007 |
|
We're very
fortunate that when the
Choir
of Trinity Church Wall Street has their annual retreat at the nearby
Trinity Conference Center, they come visit us and sing at our
house. |
|
On
the Feast of St. Francis in early October, we bring our companion animals
(including birds and reptiles!) to
Trinity for the annual Blessing of the Animals during the 10:30 service. Our
coffee hour that day features treats for everybody, including our pets! |
The
Robertson Alford lecture series focuses each year on a timely topic.
In 2007 the series is entitled "Domestic
Green" |
|
In 2007, we had our first
Chocolate Sunday. |
At some point during the year,
one of the Diocesan Bishops
usually comes to visit us. |
|
|
We
usually start the
Advent Season with a Holiday Bazaar.
Here are pictures of our preparations
in 2003!! |
|
|
|
In 2001 we resurrected a
time-honored Trinity tradition -- Caroling
for our Lime Rock neighbors. We've also caroled for various local
homes for the aged since then. |
After the 10:30 service on
3rd
Advent, we join the Flower Committee in Greening of the Church. |
|
Christmas
at Trinity really begins with the Holy
Eucharist for 4th Advent, when we present our
Young People's Christmas
Pageant |
Christmas Eve begins with a choir concert,
followed by a Festal Eucharist, and a traditional Holy Eucharist later
that night. |
|
|
|
|
|
On Boxing Day
2002
the Sunday School sang at Noble Horizons for a very appreciative group of
people. |
